Kansas Teachers' Hall of Fame Class of 2013
Faculty members who taught with him and for him described how much better he helped them to become. He believed in them and encouraged them. This same phenomena seemed to reach each and every student, again making them believe in themselves and their ability to improve. He created such a positive environment that many times the rapport seemed to be a force in itself, thus improving the whole school.
Kathy D. Hines |
Kathy D. Hines is an active Health, Physical Education, and Freshman Transition teacher with forty years of experience in Atchison, Kansas. She has been nominated by Dr. Susan Myers, for induction into the Kansas Teachers’ Hall of Fame. This nomination is supported by a statement from a current student at Atchison High School who writes: Kathy“Personally, Mrs. Hines is the greatest teacher I have ever had and is high up on the list for most inspiring person I know.”

Kenneth L. Miller
|
Mr. Miller was known for his ability to motivate students to take part in science projects and competitions, where they scored high. Many said he “made science come alive” for them. Colleagues noted that he was creative and willing to share his ideas. During his tenure in Salina he served on QPA and other curriculum committees.

His willingness to assume building leadership assignments were recognized widely.
Marcia L. Giess |
No story of Marcia’s career would be complete without a description of her own battle with cancer. Three times she has beaten back the dread disease through chemotherapy, radiation , etc. Yet she not only kept up with the changes in technology, she led the way. Many districts in which she worked were undergoing changes in financing, make-up, and staffing. Throughout, staff members and former students say she was confident, positive, and devoted to creating opportunities for success for all her students.

Patricia Ann Petz

The honors awarded to Patricia Petz are numerous. She received the Hays Wal- Mart Teacher of the Year Award in 2007, was named four times to Who’s Who Among American Teachers: in 2007, in 2006, in 1998, and in 1997. She received many grants from MacDonalds and from Southwest Bell for classroom activities she originated. At the same time, she was actively involved in community and in taking part in family activities with her children and grandchildren.

Paul K. Stuewe

Paul Stuewe is a published author. He has edited books, and published lesson plans and a widely used book on teacher preparation. One of his books, “Kansas Revisited--Historical Images and Perspectives” is listed as a favorite by many. He has served on the Board of the Kansas Historical Foundation for 22 years. Mr. Stuewe takes pride in the fact that he plays an active part in his professional organizations, as an officer, presenter of programs or wherever the need exists.

Sarah M. Schaeffer

Sarah’s colleagues and administrators call attention to her knowledge of middle school level children and her devotion and dedication to their unique qualities and needs. She exhibits this by serving as the DCMS Building Team Leader for four years, and currently serving as Building Coordinator for the Mentor-Mentee program for the two D.C. Middle Schools. She has been a presenter at Nebraska Middle Academy, the National Middle School Association, and the Kansas Association of Middle School Educators.
